Tapit sired his 18th stakes winner from his first two crops, when Headache pounded to victory in the $150,000 Claiming Crown Jewel Stakes at Canterbury Park on July 24.

The 4-year-old gray/roan from Tapit’s first crop had a rough trip, and had to alter course before prevailing by a neck in the 9-furlong test over the main track. Headache won 4 times in 8 starts last year as a 3-year-old, but was winning for the first time in 2010 on Saturday. Bred in Kentucky by Dr. Johnny Griggs and Linda Griggs, he sold to Ken and Sarah Ramsey at the 2008 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Selected Yearling Sale. Ridden to victory by Julien Leparoux, Headache has amassed a record of 18-5-5-2 and $217,954 in three seasons of racing.

Two-time Champion Sire Tapit also sired another stakes horse on July 24, when Bobby Flay’s Triple Cream came flying late to earn the runner-up spot in the $100,000 Desert Vixen Stakes over the turf at Monmouth. The 3-year-old daughter of Tapit, trained by Jimmy Toner, ran third last time out in the Boiling Springs S. (G3), also over the lawn at Monmouth. The Iron Chef purchased Triple Cream at the 2009 Barretts March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training.
