Smokin' Legend won the Stars and Stripes S. at Les Bois Park on July 4, becoming the 47th stakes winner for Smoke Glacken. The gray/roan won the 6 1/2-furlong contest by a neck, with a strong rally in the final furlong.
Smokin' Legend was bred in Kentucky by Dapple Bloodstock, and sold as a yearling for $130,000 at the Fasig-Tipton July Select Sale. Now owned by Tom Dougherty and Sam Stevenson, Smokin' Legend has won every year raced, ages 2 through 5. He was triple stakes placed as a 3-year-old, including the $100,000 Borderland Derby, and owns a consistent record of 36-7-5-6 and $146,703.
Smokin' Legend is out of the multiple stakes-winning mare Binalegend, whose dam is a half-sister to Mr. Greeley. Champion Smoke Glacken has sired three stakes winners and over $1,600,000 in 2011, with 83 stakes horses and $40,500,000 over the course of his career.
