Barbie Wire waltzes to first stakes win at Belmont

Friday, June 14, 2013 |
Barbie Wire waltzed to her first stakes victory in her added money debut, the $85,000 Astronomia Stakes on June 13th at Belmont Park.

The 3-year-old of Tapit became her sire's 41st career stakes winner, sixth of 2013, with the 2 1/2-length romp over seven furlongs.

Bred by Mrs. Jerry Amerman and racing for Amerman Racing LLC, Barbie Wire was the second choice of the Belmont crowd in the off-the-turf event. Content to trail through the opening quarter, Barbie Wire charged three wide into the turn under Javier Castelllano, forged to the front with a furlong to go, and ran clear by 2 1/2 lengths at the wire.

Trained by Chad Brown, the Kentucky-bred out of Fencelineneighbor, by Wild Rush, sports a record of 4-2-1-1 and earnings of $107,900 in her four starts, all as a sophomore.

Champion Sire Tapit ranks third by North American earnings ($3.8 million) and seventh by worldwide earnings ($4.6 million) among all U.S. sires this year. He is standing the 2013 season for $125,000 Live Foal.
