Scandola, a debutante from the first crop of champion Afleet Alex, gave her sire a dozen 2-year-old winners on Oct. 21st when she captured a 17-horse maiden race in France.
After finishing a gallant second in a field of 18 in her debut just nine days prior on Chantilly turf, Scandola returned to win race No. 3 on the Wednesday program at Deauville. The win came in her first start over the all-weather surface at the distance of 1 3/16 miles, which was also the distance of the bay filly’s first start.
Trained by G. Botti, she now owns a record of 1-1-0 from a pair of starts for owner Stromboli Farm Limited, which also bred her along with Aleyrion Bloodstock Ltd. Scandola was bred in the Bluegrass from the stakes-winning Forest Wildcat mare Look of the Lynx.
The win gives Leading Freshman Sire Afleet Alex 12 winners, which includes the Grade 1-winning colt Dublin. Afleet Alex enjoyed another winner on Oct. 23rd when his stakes-placed 2-year-old filly Miss Afleet Alex broke through with an impressive 3 ¼-length maiden win at Remington Park.
