Chloe Kate found another gear in the long Fair Grounds stretch to break her maiden by 6 ¾ lengths on Dec. 20. The 2-year-old daughter of Afleet Alex was a Gainesway sales graduate at the 2009 Keeneland September yearling sale, where she went for $170,000 to Mike Ryan, agent.

Afleet Alex is the nation's second-leading second-crop sire, with progeny earnings of $4.4 million. His 10 stakes winners and 12 stakes wins leads all second year sires.

The bay filly had to overcome some trouble to her first career score. After bumping several times at the break of the 1 mile and 70 yard race, she was shuffled back going into the first turn. Despite the impositions, Chloe Kate made her way into the third spot while going wide into the turn. Still four wide into the stretch, jockey Robby Albarado sent his filly to the lead and she quickly opened up to win going away.

With the win, Chloe Kate is now 1-1-0 in three starts, with $34,078 in earnings. She is trained by Neil Howard for Courtlandt Farms. She was bred in Kentucky by Rutledge Farm and Herman Greenberg.

Chloe Kate is a half-sister to Lady Melesi, who set a track record when she won the Lady Hallie H. at Sportsman's Park and was second in the Grade 1 Milady H. at Hollywood Park.
