Alexandra Rylee was never headed in her Aug. 28 debut at Saratoga, taking a $60,000 maiden six-furlong sprint for 2-year-old fillies by 1 1/4-lengths. The daughter of North America's leading second-crop sire Afleet Alex was the 3-1 second choice in the field of nine.
Alexandra Rylee was fast out of the gate from the far outside, getting the first quarter in :21.86 to hold a length lead. Cornelio Velasquez got to the rail going into the turn and from that point on maintained the advantage that the rest of the field could not overcome. The final time was 1:11.05.
Cash is King LLC, who also campaigned Afleet Alex, own the Pennsylvania-bred Alexandra Rylee, who was bred by Roll Z Dice Stable 1. She is out of the 11-year-old mare Sira, who won nearly $100,000 in her career. She has one other foal, also a winner. Sira is half-sister to Iowa Oaks (G3) winner Whimsy.
