The reputation of Afleet Alex's first foal crop continued to grow when Cuqui's Love won the Dia de la Mujer S. (G2) at Camarero Racetrack in Puerto Rico on March 7. Afleet Alex currently stands in third place of leading second-crop sires for 2010.
The Dia de la Mujer is one of Puerto Rico's pre-eminent races for 3-year-old fillies. Contested over a sloppy main track, the race went off with Cuqui's Love breaking from post No. 4 and being carried somewhat wide around the first turn. Despite this, she swept to the lead under jockey Juan Diaz, who is far and away the leading rider at Camarero. Cuqui's Love relinquished the lead to Pool Bash in the far turn, but when that one went very wide going into the stretch, Diaz angled his mount inside to move back in front, ultimately winning by a head.
The dark bay or brown filly has been competing in Puerto Rico for her entire career since selling at the 2008 Keeneland September yearling sale. She is the first foal out of Chilukki Cat, who is the daughter of the champion 2-year-old filly Chilukki.
The win improved Cuqui's Love's record to 4-1-1 from 11 starts for owner Carlos Oyola Stable.
