Afleet Alex has top filly at OBS June sale

A daughter of Afleet Alex consigned by de Meric Sales, agent sold for $280,000, the highest price paid for a filly at the OBS 2013 June Sale of 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age June 18-19 in Ocala, Florida.

The hammer price wound up being the second-highest of the two day sale.

Cataloged as hip No. 618, the Kentucky-bred filly went to Stonestreet Stables LLC The bay filly, whose quarter mile breeze in :20 4/5 was co-fastest at the distance at the under tack show the previous Sunday, is out of I’m From Dixie, by Dixieland Band, a half sister to Black Eyed Susan S. (G2) winner Sweet Vendetta, as well as stakes winners Half Heaven, Love Cove, and Doll Baby.  

Afleet Alex's strong showing at the sale netted two juveniles that were in the top 10 sellers. Hip No. 740, consigned by Pike Racing, Agent III, brought a winnng bid of $170,000 from Conquest Stables, LLC, the sale's leading buyer.

The Kentucky bred colt is out of the unraced El Corredor mare Corre Scout, whose dam Fit to Scout won three graded stakes and $767,000.

Afleet Alex is the nation's leading fourth-crop sire of stakes winners. His leading earner of 2013, Iotapa, runner-up in the Santa Anita Oaks (G1) in April, makes her next start in Saturday's $150,000 Hollywood Oaks (G2) at Hollywood Park.
