Bolstered by a new $200,000 stakes winner the last weekend in March, Champion and dual Classic winner Afleet Alex became the leading second crop sire of 2010.

A strong performance by Harissa in the Sunland Park Oaks propelled Afleet Alex to the top of this year’s sophomore sires list, both by earnings and stakes winners. One of five stakes horses this year by her sire, Harissa won the Oaks by 3 ½ lengths, in her first start on a conventional dirt
surface.

Afleet Alex has now sired major stakes horses East to West and overseas, and is poised to have contenders in both the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and Kentucky Derby (G1).

Over the past 11 months, Afleet Alex has now sired nine stakes horses and 29 winners from his first crop, with earnings of more than $1.7 million. He has four stakes winners, three Graded winners, which is also tops in the siring class.
