Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert missed on Gainesway Sales’ first big colt to go through the sales ring when he was out-bid by John Ferguson and Darley for a $550,000 Tapit colt on Day 1 at Keeneland September. On Wednesday, Day 3, Baffert would not be denied on Hip No. 674, an Awesome Again colt from the Gainesway Sales consignment that he purchased for $625,000.

The classic-looking bay colt will be broken before joining Baffert’s stable in California next year. He is out of the Grade 1-winning Forest Wildcat mare Forest Secrets.

Also on Day 3, bloodstock agent David Ingordo went to $285,000 for a Tapit filly from the Gainesway consignment. Selling as Hip No. 438, the elegant gray filly will also head to the West coast for her racing career and join the famed racing stable of Jerry and Ann Moss.
