Mine That Bird, a two-year-old son of Birdstone from his sire’s first crop, was awarded honors as 2008 Canadian Champion Two-Year-Old Male, in the Sovereign Awards ceremony on December 12.

Mine That Bird was distinguished as the winner of four consecutive races earlier in 2008, including wins in the Grey S. (G3-Can), Swynford S., and Silver Deputy S.

Trained though his earlier races by co-owner David Cotey (with Derek Ball, Dominion Bloodstock, and HGHR Inc.), the bay gelding is now owned by Double Eagle Farm and is trained by Richard Mandella. He is the first foal from his dam, the Smart Strike mare Mining My Own, and was bred in Kentucky by Lamantia, Blackburn & Needham/Betz Thoroughbreds.

Mine That Bird finishes the year with a total of four wins from six starts and earnings of $304,381.

Birdstone, sire of Mine That Bird, stands at Gainesway for $10,000, live foal, payable when foal stands and nurses.
