Triple stakes winner Smokey Fire is the leading contender for year-end honors as the Champion Sprinter in Canada.

One of three finalists for the Sovereign Award as champion sprinter, the gray or roan son of Smoke Glacken won three sprint stakes last year, including a decisive head-to-head victory over co-finalist Hollywood Hit.

Smokey Fire won the $200,000 Play the King S. (G2) at 7 furlongs on the grass in 1:20.83; won the $150,000 Bold Venture S. at 6 ½ furlongs on the main track over Hollywood Hit; and the $100,000 Mt. Sassafras S. at 7 furlongs on the main track.

Over the past two seasons, Smokey Fire has compiled an ultra-consistent record of 14-7-3-1, for earnings of $562,629. He was bred in Ontario by Mel P. Lawson, and races for Jim Dandy Stable. He is a full or half brother to three other stakes horses, including 2010 stakes winner Utterly Cool ($357,622).

Champion Smoke Glacken was a Leading General Sire and Juvenile Sire in 2010. He sired seven stakes winners and earners of more than over $4,000,000 overall, including Saratoga Grade 1 winner Persistently.
