Takes the Gold tallied a 3 1/4-length win Sept. 10 at Belmont Park, giving his sire Corinthian his fifth winner of the year. The victory put Corinthian on the cusp of entering the top 10 on the first-crop sire list.

Takes the Gold, who was third in his debut at 6 1/2-furlongs at Saratoga last month, stretched out to a mile for his second start. Going four wide around the turn, the bay colt moved from third to first coming into the stretch. He increased his advantage down the lane under a hand ride from John Velazquez to get the mile in 1:37.86 over the fast track.

Bred in Kentucky by New Life Stable, Takes the Gold sold at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky summer yearling sale for $140,000, when he was purchased by his current owner Jay Em Ess Stable. He is a half-brother to J J'sdream S. winner Dashing Debby and Hopeful Image, who placed in the Grade 2 Bonnie Miss S.
