Cuvee, a Grade 1 winner and leading juvenile of his generation, is now the sire of Grade 1 winner and leading juvenile of 2009, as his colt Noble’s Promise stepped up to capture his third straight win and biggest of his young racing career in the $500,000 Breeders’ Futurity (G1) on Oct. 10th at Keeneland.
Stretching out around two turns for the first time, Noble’s Promise closely tracked the early pace in the big field of 14 before taking command at the top of the stretch and kicking away nicely in the stretch. The bay colt lengthened his stride and bounded across the local Polytrack with power, hitting the wire a half-length on top of the late-closing Aikenite. They were three lengths clear of the rest of the field.
Noble’s Promise stopped the clock in 1:43.12 for the 1 1/16 miles, earning a very solid Beyer Speed Figure of 91 – a career high to date.
Trained by Kenny McPeek, Noble’s Promise moved his earnings to $385,500 for owner Chasing Dreams Racing 2008, LLC. Prior to Saturday, Noble’s Promise was last seen winning the Fitz Dixon Memorial S. at Presque Isle Downs on Sept. 26. He broke his maiden at Ellis Park earlier in September.
Noble’s Promise is likely poised to make his next start at yet another racetrack – Santa Anita – for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) next month. Bred in Kentucky by C. Kidder and Cole & B. Kidder, the promising colt is out of the Clever Trick mare The Devil’s Trick. He was a Gainesway Sales weanling graduate at the 2007 Keeneland November sale.
Earlier Saturday, Cuvee also had a 2-year-old filly run well in graded company, as Witch’s Coven ran third in the $250,000 Mazarine S. (G3) at Woodbine.
