With the first 2-year-olds in training sale of 2011 set for March 3rd, Gainesway’s freshman stallion Corinthian has ignited interest far and wide.

The millionaire Grade 1-winning miler has 11 juveniles catalogued to the first three major sales, Fasig-Tipton Florida, Barretts Select, and OBS March Select.

And backed by full books of top mares and some of the best looking yearlings of any stallion in 2010, prognosticators are saying that Corinthian appears to have the goods to achieve immediate success.

Daily Racing Form bloodlines columnist Lauren Stich singled out Corinthian in her picks for the top young sire prospects of 2011, saying “Corinthian was much more than a miler, but his best races came in the two most prestigious mile races in this country…By Pulpit – an emerging sire of sires with young sons at stud such as Tapit, Purge and Sky Mesa – out of an Easy Goer mare, Corinthian has Easy Goer’s flashy copper coloring…his third dam, stakes winner, Number, was a full sister to stakes winner Bound, and these two sisters had as their half-siblings, champion Nureyev, and 2-year-old Irish champion filly, Fairy Bridge – the dam of champion Sadler’s Wells. A pedigree just doesn't get any more purple than this.”

TrueNicks founder Byron Rogers said, “I am a big fan of Corinthian as a stallion prospect. A son of Pulpit, like Tapit and Sky Mesa, Corinthian has the royally-bred Easy Goer as his broodmare sire and hails from one of the strongest female lines in the stud book - a lot to like just on the pedigree page. Of  course he was also a talented… racehorse who proved an outstanding miler. He ticks a lot of boxes, if you like.”

Renowned pedigree authority Alan Porter also cited Corinthian’s exemplary family when he wrote, “Corinthian looks a very interesting prospect…especially given that female line.”

Corinthian had 135 live foals in his first crop, and 70 sold as yearlings, averaging $83,321 at public auction. TBH MarketWatch reported that Corinthian was the #1 Freshman Sire in his class by percentage of profitable yearlings and by number of profitable yearlings. He was also the #1 Freshman by median in his stud fee range.

His inaugural two-year-olds catalogued are: At FT Select March 3: #11 (c. o/o Playcaller, by Saratoga Six), #41 (c. o/o Silver Lace, by Silver Deputy), #119 (f. o/o Bansjee Girl, by Deputy Minister), 191 (f. o/o Hot Red, by Thunder Gulch). At Barretts March: #30 (c. o/o Hollow Miss, by With Approval), #53 (f. o/o Ocean Current, by Storm Cat).
