G1-placed Iotapa becomes Afleet Alex’s newest SW

Monday, May 20, 2013 |
Rising 3-year-old filly Iotapa had a breakthrough win Sunday, May 19th at Hollywood Park when the daughter of Afleet Alex scored a clear victory over Grade 2 winner Ciao Bella Luna in the $74,000 Railbird S., marking her third win from just four lifetime starts.

In her previous start, Iotapa stepped up into Grade 1 company in the $300,000 Santa Anita Oaks (G1) after impressive wins against maiden and entry-level allowance company to start her career. The dark bay filly was a valiant runner-up to champion Beholder in the Oaks, and out-finished eventual Black-Eyed Susan S. (G2) winner Fiftyshadesofhay for second place that day.

Turning back to seven furlongs in the Railbird, Iotapa proved best to become her sire’s 21st stakes winner, stopping the clock in 1:23.40 over the local Cushion Track. Trained by John Sadler, the promising filly moved her career earnings to $155,490 for owner by Hronis Racing LLC. Out of the El Corredor mare Concinnous, Iotapa was bred in Kentucky by GEM Inc., Bajer & O’Hara.
