Gainesway grad by Birdstone rolls at Hollywood

Friday, July 12, 2013 | Birdstone
Blue Tone struck a winning note July 11 at Hollywood Park, rolling to a 5 1/4-length maiden special weight victory at 1 1/16 miles on the Cushion Track.

Blue Tone made all the running in the stretch, coming from third after a half-mile to draw off with authority in the stretch.

The winner is owned by a partnership of Beverly Engelberg, Jan Steeper and Schroeder Farms LLC. Gainesway consigned and sold Blue Note for $100,000 at the 2010 Keeneland September Yearling sale, where he was bought by Bob Hess, his current trainer.

Birdstone, the sire of $2 million-plus earners and classic winners Summer Bird and Mine That Bird, stood the 2013 season at Gainesway for $10,000 LFS&N.
