Informed Decision, a 2006 Gainesway Sales yearling graduate, turned in a tremendous performance on racing’s biggest weekend, as she won the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) on Nov. 6th to stamp herself as the best female sprinter in the land.

Usually a powerful closer, Informed Decision changed tactics and displayed good stalking speed in the seven-furlong event, tracking pacesetter Free Flying Soul before kicking clear strongly in the stretch. Defending champion Ventura made a late run but could not pass Informed Decision, who turned back the champ and would not be denied in the Filly & Mare Sprint. She hit the wire a clear winner, 1 ¼ lengths in front. The final time was 1:21.66 over the local Polytrack – a performance that earned Informed Decision a 103 Beyer Speed Figure.

Informed Decision also defeated Ventura in their only other meeting in the Madison S. (G1) at Keeneland earlier this year. The big gray filly now owns an incredible record of 11 wins from 14 starts with earnings of $1,771,617 for owner Augustin Stable and trainer Jonathan Sheppard. In 2009, she has three Grade 1 wins, and the 4-year-old owns seven total graded stakes victories.
