Gainesway Sales added two new graded stakes winners Memorial Weekend, when Riley Tucker and Redding Colliery both won their inaugural graded stakes races.
Veteran campaigner Riley Tucker struck first, winning the $107,900 Aristides S. (G3) at Churchill Downs on May 29, in a sparkling 1:08.34. The son of Harlan’s Holiday earned a career-best 110 Beyer Speed Figure for the six-furlong event over the main track, and boosted his earnings to $440,805. Gainesway sold Riley Tucker for breeder Formal Gold at the 2006 Fasig-Tipton July yearling sale for $375,000 to Zayat Stables.
Two days later, Redding Colliery ran a monster of a race in the $300,000 Lone Star Park H. (G2), drawing off to win by 6 ¾ lengths over a full field of proven graded stakes horses. Under Rosie Napravnik, the son of Mineshaft came three wide then poured it on in the upper stretch to win going away.
Redding Colliery was bred by Gainesway Thoroughbreds and 707 Stables, and sold for $170,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September Sale to Meadowlands Stud. Now racing for Mrs. Fitriani Hay, the international traveler has made 15 career starts, and won four times in his last nine since last August at Saratoga. He has earned over $400,000.
These two graded winners are among 23 stakes horses of 2010 sold by Gainesway Sales. Gainesway's six graded stakes winners ranks them fourth among all consignors this year.
