Gainesway raised and sold Zaidan ran his record to a perfect 2-for-2 with a victory in the Chesham S. on the last day of the 2010 Royal Ascot meet. The seven-furlong Chesham, for 2-year-olds, went at seven furlongs over the firm Ascot turf.

Zaidan was the first of three impressive stakes winners on June 19th for Gainesway Sales: across the pond, Keeneland September 2008 graduate Paddy O'Prado won the $500,000 Colonial Turf Cup (G2), while Keeneland January 2008 graduate Afleet Express won the $200,000 Pegasus S. (G3). Gainesway offered Zaidan at the 2009 Keeneland September Sale, where he brought $200,000 from Anthony Stroud Bloodstock. The dark bay or brown colt is by Street Cry out of Element of Truth, and he was bred in Kentucky by Stratford Place Stud.

Zaidan, given a fine ride by Seb Sanders, was a decisive winner, handing trainer Clive Brittain his first Royal Ascot success in seven years. Starting from stall 13, he was dropped in behind horses early and switched towards the rail. From there, he traveled in midpack until asked to quicken three furlongs from home. He responded quickly and, making his run along the rail, hit the front two furlongs out and scored by three lengths.

Proving it's never too early to dream big, Brittain, who was second with Bold Arrangement in the 1986 Kentucky Derby (G1) sees Zaidan as a Derby type next year.

"I always said that the next time I go back to the Kentucky Derby, I'd go with a horse with a chance, and this could be it," Brittain said. "Always the dreamer, we'll probably go for a group race (in Europe) next and miss the Breeders' Cup."

Zaidan won his debut at five furlongs on May 1 at Doncaster racecourse. He is owned by Saeed Manana and has earned $45,923 in his two wins.
