Gainesway sells Funny Moon for $2.3 milion at Fasig-Tipton

Sunday, November 06, 2011 |
Gainesway consigned and sold Funny Moon for $2.3 million, the top seller the first evening at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November select mixed sale on Nov. 6. Five-year-old Funny Moon, winner of the grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks, was cataloged as hip No. 105 and sold in foal to Indian Charlie.

Lincoln Collins, representing Leonard Riggio’s My Meadowview breeding and racing operation, bought Funny Moon.

“We very much liked the mare,” Collins said. “We only had two or three mares on our list for the sale. She was an extremely good race mare. She’s good-looking, we like Indian Charlie, and she has a very solid pedigree, so what more can I say? At this level, they’re all expensive, but it (her price) was in the ball park of what we thought she would bring.”

Funny Moon also captured the Shuvee H. (G2) in 2010 en route to earning $530,900 in her career. She is a half sister to Throng, who won the 2008 Native Dancer S. at Laurel Park and the 2007 Dr. Fager S. at Arlington Park.
