Reigning Sprint Champion Informed Decision strode to a confident daylight victory in the Windward Stakes at Presque Isle Downs on July 27, her first career start around two turns.
The Gainesway Sales graduate dragged Julien Leparoux to the lead going into the first turn, and was never seriously threatened during the one-mile event, despite being challenged throughout. Settled along the rail, Informed Decision set comfortable fractions, then was given a few taps and her head at the top of the lane, and drew off to a 1 ½-length victory under a hand ride.
This was the 10th career stakes win for the gray/roan mare, and brought her lifetime record to 18-13-0-4, and earnings of $1,952,759. Informed Decision is scheduled to defend her crown in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) at Churchill Downs this fall. Trainer Jonathan Sheppard said her next start will be the Ballerina S. (G1) at Saratoga on August 28.
Informed Decision was bred in Kentucky by Dr.’s Chuck Kidder and Nancy Cole, and sold by Gainesway at the 2006 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Sale for $150,000.
Informed Decision is one of 17 stakes winners this year consigned by Gainesway.
