Joyful Victory dominates in Grade 2 Molly Pitcher

Sunday, July 28, 2013 | Tapit
Tapit's top-class filly Joyful Victory turned in a front-running, 7 1/2-length romp in the $195,000 Molly Pitcher S. (G2) Sunday afternoon at Monmouth Park.

With three stakes wins to date this year, including the Grade 1 Santa Margarita S., Joyful Victory is Tapit's leading earner of 2013. Tapit has five graded stakes winners this year and over $5.1 million in progeny earnings, putting him in seventh on General Sire list.

Joyful Victory took command in the Molly Pitcher going into the clubhouse turn with Rosie Napravnik aboard. They were never headed, leaving the competition behind on the far turn while completing the 1 1/16-mile distance in 1:46.09 over a track rated fast.

"She was just cruising around there today," rider Rosie Napravnik said. "In her last race (the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps at Belmont Park), the pace was really fast and she was down on the inside so there were no breathers. Today she was able to do her own thing on the lead. It's nice to see her back on her 'A' game."

"This horse has such an amazing cruising speed that she forces other horses to run harder to keep up," said winning trainer Larry Jones"The Breeders' Cup (Ladies Classic, Nov. 1) is our goal and this race has been circled on our calendar to get there. We'll go next in the Zenyatta at Santa Anita (G1, Sept. 28)."

Bred in Ontario by William D. Graham out of the Wild Again mare Wild Lucy, Joyful Victory has banked $1,222,679 for her owner Fox Hill Farm while compiling a record of 7-5-3 in 19 races.
