Greeley’s Rocket, a 2-year-old filly by Mr. Greeley, lived up to her suggestively-fast name, rolling to a decisive 5 ¾-length win in her career debut on June 28th at Churchill Downs.
Breaking sharply, Greeley’s Rocket shot out to a clear early lead down the backstretch of the five-furlong heat. The speedy bay filly received a breather on turn as the rest of the field franticly tried to close the gap. They were able to get to her flank but not for long, as Greeley’s Rocket hit another gear turning for home and poured it on in the stretch, winning all alone on the wire. The final time was 58.41 seconds.
Trained by Bret Calhoun, Greeley’s Rocket earned $29,425 for owner Richard L. Davis. Out of the American Chance mare Clay’s Rocket, the filly was bred in Kentucky by Gulf Coast Farms, LLC.
