Mr. Greeley mare romps in Ticonderoga S.

Monday, October 26, 2009 |
You Go West Girl, a 5-year-old mare by Mr. Greeley, picked up her third stakes victory in impressive fashion on Oct. 25th, displaying a powerful turn of foot in the stretch to win going away by three lengths in the $150,000 Ticonderoga S. at Belmont.

The win was You Go West Girl’s second straight in a stakes, as last month she captured the $107,000 Hettinger S. at Belmont. She ran the nine-furlong Ticonderoga in 1:53.53 over soft and slow local turf course due to heavy weekend rains in the New York area.

Trained by Tom Proctor, the classy dark bay mare moved her earnings to $482,137 for owner Craig Bernick. Graded stakes-placed at three, You Go West Girl has now won eight races – three stakes – from 21 starts, which includes eight other on-the-board finishes.

Bred in New York by Gallaghers Stud, Inc., You Go West Girl is out of the multiple graded stakes-winning Runaway Groom mare Careless Heiress. For Mr. Greeley, the win marked his eighth black-type stakes win of the season.
