The annual Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected Yearlings Sale Aug. 10 & 11 proved that despite the current economic conditions a good horse will still hold strong in the market. Yearlings by Mr. Greeley did more than hold their own against the Who’s Who of the stallion ranks in the elite two-day yearling sale, as eight sold for an average of $256,875 with the headliner, a filly, selling for $510,000.

Consigned by Gainesway, the elegant filly went through the ring as Hip 59 and was purchased by Bob Feld as agent for Sagamore Farm, which is owned by Under Armour apparel company founder and CEO Kevin Plank.

Seven hips later, Centennial Farms, which campaigned such successful racehorses in recent years as champion Corinthian, purchased a Mr. Greeley colt as Hip 66 for $350,000. Mr. Greeley also had a $250,000 colt during the opening session of the sale that sold as Hip 21 to IEAH Stable with Nick Sallusto signing the ticket as agent.

Day two of the sale began with a $300,000 Mr. Greeley filly just three hips in, as Lot 121 went to Marc Keller. A couple of hips later, Gainesway sold another Mr. Greeley colt for $200,000 to Andrew Balding as Hip 123.

Further into the second session, Padua Stables bought a Mr. Greeley colt for $240,000 as Hip 143, giving the internationally renowned sire six yearlings that sold for $200,000 or more.
