Greenspring, a Gainesway Sales graduate, gave his sire Orientate a dynamic stakes win to kickoff the New Year, as the newly-turned 5-year-old stretched out for the first time around two turns and recorded an ultra-impressive six-length win in the $70,000 Native Dancer S. at Laurel Park on Jan. 2nd.

Stretching to a mile, Greenspring stalked in close order down the backstretch before tipping off the fence and forging through between rivals in the stretch to take full command. Jockey Jeremy Rose enjoyed an effortless hand ride to the wire and Greenspring ran away from his rivals with every step. He stopped the clock in 1:38.18 over a fast local main track, earning the improving bay a 100 Beyer Speed Figure – a career high. In the race prior to the Native Dancer, Greenspring was a close second in the six-furlong Fall Highweight H. (G3) at Aqueduct.

Trained by Christopher Grove, Greenspring has never run out of the exacta, winning five of seven starts with a pair of runner-up finishes. He has earned $145,780 for owner Our Chelsea Stable, which purchased the horse as a yearling for $85,000 at Keeneland from the Gainesway Sales consignment. The Formal Gold LLC Partnership bred Greenspring in Kentucky from the multiple stakes-producing Seattle Slew mare Violet Lady.
