Two more high-class maiden special winners and a repeat juvenile stakes winner at the end of August have kept the spotlight on the two-year-old crop by Orientate.

First to strike was the stakes-winning filly Little Widow Maker, who won her second added-money event in four starts on August 25. The dark bay daughter of Orientate had already won the Debutante S. and run second in the Graduation S., before taking the Osiris Stakes at Assiniboia Downs. The heavy favorite came widest of all, but drew off for a 2 ½-length victory at the wire. Little Widow Maker was bred by Adena Springs, and races for Terry Propps, who purchased her as a yearling.

Just a day later, Table Talking tackled a $46,495 maiden special at Delaware, and rewarded her backers with an impressive 5 ¼-length victory. The Kentucky bred stalked for three quarters then poured it on the stretch to win going away. A homebred racing for Skeedattle Associates, she boasts a record of 4-2-0-0 and $48,650.

On August 29 at Monmouth, After Later made an auspicious debut, trouncing a $72,000 maiden special field by 7 ¼ lengths. The Robert Trussell Jr. homebred went postward as the 6-5 favorite, and strode home a most authoritative winner. Trainer Patrick Biancone revealed afterwards that the Grade 1 Frizette S. at Belmont Park could be After Later’s next start.

Orientate is one of Kentucky’s top 12 juvenile sires, with eight winners, three stakes horses, and earnings in excess of $300,000.
