Brazilian-bred Great Hot closed late to win the $100,000 Torrey Pines S. Sept. 4 at Del Mar (VIDEO), becoming the fifth stakes winner of the year for her sire Orientate. The 3-year-old filly prepped for the Torrey Pines with a third place finish in the $90,000 Sandy Blue H., on the turf, two weeks ago at Del Mar.

Great Hot was third for nearly all of the one mile Torrey Pines, rallying in the final furlong to win by three-quarters of a length in an excellent 1:35.88, just 3/5ths of a second off the track record.

Jessica Coudelaria bred and owns Great Hot, who is 3-0-1 in five starts, with earnings of $111,265. The chestnut filly broke her maiden in her home country last October, then came to the States and put under the care of A. C. Avila.
