Smoke Glacken is keeping the heat turned on this summer, with three stakes winners in a seven-day span, including One Smokin’ Lady on July 16 and Smokey Fire on July 17.
Each stakes winner won over a different track surface. Graded stakes winner Smokey Fire scorched on Polytrack, winning the $159,281 Bold Venture Stakes at Woodbine in his 2010 debut. The 5-year-old tackled a top field of sprinters at in the 6 ½-furlong event, and won going away by 1 ¾ lengths. Bred in Ontario by Mel Lawson and raced by Jim Dandy Stable, Smokey Fire has won or placed in all his starts, and earned $357,020. Out of a four-time stakes producer, he is a full brother to July 11th Woodbine turf stakes winner Utterly Cool.
Stateside on the dirt, One Smokin’ Lady turned on the afterburners, winning the $60,000 Day Lilly S. gate to wire, 4/5 off the 6f track record at Penn National. A previous stakes winner in 2010 and 2009, the Graded stakes filly has won or placed in 12 of 13 career starts, and earned $279,120. She was bred in Kentucky by Chadds Ford Stable, and races for CJZ Racing Stable.
