Ruthville gets first stakes win in $100K Lady Canterbury

Saturday, August 04, 2012 | Afleet Alex
Afleet Alex's 5-year-old daughter Ruthville skipped to a one length score in the $100,000 Lady Canterbury S. on August 4, the first stakes victory in the career of the lightly-raced Kentucky bred mare (VIDEO). She is the tenth stakes horse of 2012 for Afleet Alex, who is a leading fourth-crop sire of stakes winners.

Ruthville settled some ten lengths off the lead down the backstretch of the one-mile turf event before launching her bid going into the final turn. She quickly cut into Rare Sunset's big lead, slipping up the inside to get the lead in upper stretch and comfortably holding off Bryan's Jewel for the final margin.

Ruthville is 4-1-1 in just 11 lifetime starts, earning $144,252. She is out of Ruthian, winner of the Firecracker H. She is also the dam of Rutherienne, winner of nearly $1.3 million and eight graded stakes; and Ruthenia, winner of the Grade 3 Violet S.
