Sharp maiden score at Delaware for Corinthian colt

Wednesday, May 30, 2012 |
Mr. Continental turned in a very impressive performance to break his maiden in his second lifetime start, on May 28 at Delaware Park (VIDEO). The 3-year-old colt won geared down by 6 1/2-lengths to give his sire Corinthian, who is ranked seventh on the second-crop sire list, his 24th winner of the year.

Mr. Continental wasted little time asserting himself as he shot right to the lead in just a few strides. Under a stout hold for the first half-mile, his rider Daniel Centeno let the chestnut sophomore out at the head of the stretch, and he opened up by six lengths by mid-stretch. Centeno coasted home to stop the timer in 1:11.25 for the six furlongs.

Racing in the colors of his breeder My Meadowview Farm, Mr. Continental picked up $21,600 for the win. He is out of the twice stakes-placed mare Forty Gran, whose offspring include Square Eddie, winner of the Grade 1 Lane's End Futurity and $837,038, as well as the stakes-placed winners Hoi An and Reverently.
