Perennial top juvenile sire Smoke Glacken got his latest promising 2-year-old stakes winner when his colt Western Smoke romped to a 6 ¾-length victory in the $50,000 Prairie Gold Juvenile S. on July 18th at Prairie Meadows.

Trained by Steve Asmussen, Western Smoke was sent off as the odds-on 3-5 favorite in the five-furlong stakes race, and he did not disappoint, popping out of the gates on top and running his rivals off their feet. The speedy gray was never challenged at any point, waltzing to a powerful win by daylight at the wire. The final time was 57.21 seconds over a fast local dirt track.

The win was Western Smoke’s first in a stakes and second overall, as he was an impressive debut winner at Keeneland back in April. In between, the colt was fourth in the Kentucky Juvenile (G3) and most recently an unlucky second in a Churchill Downs allowance race.

Bred in Kentucky by Hopewell Investments LLC from the Boston Harbor mare Echo Harbor, Western Smoke now has career earnings of $76,687 from four starts for owner J. Kirk Robison.
