Smoke It Right improved to four wins in as many career starts after winning the $58,800 Mountain Valley S. on March 5 at Oaklawn Park.

The 3-year-old Smoke Glacken colt led the entire race, winning by 1 1/4- lengths as the 3-to-2 favorite. Trained by Bernard Chatters, Smoke It Right covered six furlongs on a track rated as fast in 1:11.26.

Smoke It Right won his debut by 12 1/2-lengths last June 6 and followed with an easy eight-length score in the Lafayette S. in September, both at Evangeline Downs in Louisiana. He returned to the races in 2011 with another easy win, a 3 3/4-length allowance victory on February 11, this time at Delta Downs.

Though he is not Triple Crown nominated yet, Smoke It Right could find himself squarely in the mix in his next start.

“With the Rebel S. (G2) in two weeks, it's highly possible,” Chatters said of the 1 1/16-mile that is a key Kentucky Derby prep. “I'd really love a flat mile more than the Rebel. We want to try to get to races like the Arkansas Derby (G1), but we have to do it incrementally. I’m pretty confident he can get that distance.”

Smoke Glacken already has another 3-year-old under Triple Crown consideration in Jakesam, who has run second in both the El Camino Real Derby (G3) and California Derby this year.

Bred in Kentucky by Gainesway in partnership with Robert Losey and Laura McKinney, Smoke It Right is one of two winners from as many starters out of the Alphabet Soup mare Bride in the Wings, a half sister to Grade 1-placed stakes winner Falkenburg and Road Rush, winner of the Grey S. (G3) in Canada.

Owners Rand Metoyer and Bernard Chatters saw their colt's earnings rise to $96,300 with the victory.
