Orientate, sire of record-breaking
G2 winner Greenspring
Greenspring, by Orientate, emerged as one of the top sprinters on the eastern seaboard on Feb. 15 when he shattered a 21-year-old track record while winning the $150,000 General George H. (G2) at Laurel Park.

The brilliantly-fast 5-year-old made a bold four-wide move into the stretch and rolled past his competition late, hitting the wire 1 ½ lengths on top and stopping the clock in a blazing 1:20.95 for seven furlongs over a fast local main track. It established both a stakes record and a new track record at Laurel.

Trained by Christopher Grove, Greenspring moved his impressive record to six wins from eight starts, with his lone defeats coming in the form of second-place finishes by a combined 1 ½ lengths. The General George was his first graded victory.

Bred in Kentucky by Formal Gold LLC Partnership, Greenspring is not only by Gainesway stallion Orientate but was also consigned by Gainesway Sales at the 2006 Keeneland September sale as a yearling for $85,000. Current owners Our Chelsea Stable purchased Greenspring, whose General George triumph moved his career bankroll to $235,780.

Greenspring became the fifth graded stakes winner for former Eclipse Champion Sprinter Orientate, who stands in 2010 for a fee of $10,000.
