Stakes veteran Miss Valentine best at Aqueduct

Afleet Alex's 4-year-old daughter Miss Valentine racked up her fourth stakes victory April 21 at Aqueduct in the $75,000 Northern Willy S. The New York bred filly has put together a great career on the northeast circuit, winning or placing in eight stakes and earning $276,300 over the past two and half years for her owner/breeder Waterville Lake Stables Limited LLC.

In the one mile Waterville, Miss Valentine relaxed in the back of the five horse field for the first half-mile. Cornelio Velasquez gave his mount the cue to go on the turn, and she steadily gained ground while going three wide into the stretch. The 4-5 favorite hit the front inside the eighth pole and drew off to win by 2 1/4-lengths in 1:37.08 on a “fast” track.

Miss Valentine is one of six stakes horses in 2012 for Afleet Alex. A top 5 third-crop sire of 2011, Afleet Alex is standing this year at Gainesway for $20,000 LFS&N.
