Tapit’s star 3-year-old filly Careless Jewel scored a trio of consecutive graded stakes wins when she added the lucrative $750,000 Cotillion S. (G2) on Oct. 3rd to her streak that also includes impressive wins in the Alabama (G1) and Delaware Oaks (G2). Her decisive 3 ½-length win Saturday gives Careless Jewel a combined margin of victory of 21 ¾ lengths through her three graded-stakes tour de force.

Trained by Josie Carroll, the brilliant gray filly made every step of the running in the 1 1/16-mile Cotillion and proved much the best in the stretch. She stopped the clock in 1:41.40 over the fast local dirt track, earning a 98 Beyer for the performance. Not only was it her third graded win in a row, it marked her fifth straight win since running third in her debut earlier this year at Keeneland.

Careless Jewel is now a millionaire for her owner Donver Stable, who purchased her for $40,000 as a yearling from the consignment of Gainesway Sales at the 2007 Keeneland September sale. She is out of the Hennessy mare Sweet and Careless.
