Fresh off back-to-back 2-year-old Breeders’ Cup winners from his first two crops to race, leading sire Tapit has again been booked full for the 2010 breeding season. The 8-year-old Gainesway stallion was also booked full in 2009.
Tapit, a Grade 1 winner by Pulpit out of the Unbridled mare Tap Your Heels, has risen to the top of the stallion ranks since his first crop of 2-year-olds hit in 2008. From that debut crop, he sired Breeders’ Cup winner Stardom Bound and fellow Grade 1-winning 2-year-old Laragh en route to becoming both champion Freshman Sire and champion Juvenile Sire of 2008.
Tapit followed his 2008 success with a strong year in 2009, siring such Grade 1-winning first-crop 3-year-olds as Careless Jewel, Japan Derby-winning colt Testa Matta and Spanish champion colt As de Trebol. The arrival of his second crop of 2-year-olds in 2009 has already brought similar success, as his debutante Tapitsfly won the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf last month at Santa Anita to give Tapit his second 2-year-old Breeders’ Cup winner from as many crops.
Tapit’s stud fee for 2010 was set at $50,000.
