Bearcatt, a 3-year-old colt from the leading debut crop of champion sire Tapit, took advantage of a patient ride by Emma-Jayne Wilson to rally from last to first to win the $150,000 Woodstock S. by a decisive 3 ¼ lengths on April 26th at Woodbine.
Making just his third lifetime start and first start at three, Bearcatt settled towards the back of the pack before powering home in the stretch to graduate with flying colors in his stakes debut. The final time was a crisp 1:09.32 for six furlongs over the local Polytrack, and the promising gray colt earned a 92 Beyer Speed Figure.
Trained by Reade Baker, Bearcatt has won 2-of-3 starts with a second-place finish, and has earned $110,815 for owners Bear Stables, Ltd, who purchased the colt for $190,000 as a yearling at the 2007 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Summer Yearlings Sale. He was bred in Kentucky by Mrs. O. M. Patrick from the Hennessy mare Nascat.
