Tapit colt tops Day 1 of Fasig-Tipton Kentucky yearling sale

A bay yearling son of Tapit, out of the stakes-winning mare Classic Woman, brought a sale-topping price of $280,000 at day 1 of the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky yearling sale, which runs Oct. 25-27. The price was more than double the second-highest sale figure.

Hip No. 189 was consigned by Dapple Stud and was purchased by Mark Casse, agent. The colt is a half-brother to two winners, including City Stormer, who has bankrolled $202,480. He comes from the same family as champion grass horse Tight Spot and Grade 1 winners Premium Tap and Valiant Nature.

Tapit is ranked in the top 20 of all sires of yearling at auction in 2010, with gross sales of nearly $4.4 million. He is also the nations third ranked sire on the third-crop sire list.
