Concord Point, a 3-year-old colt by Tapit, scored a 1 1/4-length victory in a first-level allowance race at Santa Anita on Apr. 14, getting the 6 ½-furlong contest in a quick 1:15 1/5. Concord Point always figured prominently in the race, dueling for the first three panels before shaking off a rival to kick clear a quarter mile from home, then maintaining his advantage to the wire.
A gray/roan like his sire, Concord Point is now 2-for-3 lifetime, with earnings of $56,760. He is owned by Kaleem Shah, who purchased the colt after his debut victory last Dec. 26. He is trained by Bob Baffert. Gainesway consigned and sold Concord Point for $220,000 at the 2008 Keeneland September yearling sale.
Tapit currently ranks fourth on the 2010 North American third-crop sire list. He is represented by nine stakes horses so far this year, with his top earner the 3-year-old Triple Crown prospect Tempted to Tapit, who placed in both the Risen Star (G2) and Sunland Derby (G3) this year.
