Champion first-crop sire Tapit has another exciting 3-year-old filly from his debut crop making waves on the racetrack, as Careless Jewel parlayed her first start around two turns into a one-sided 7 1/4-length win in a $71,044 allowance race on June 21st at Woodbine. The impressive victory gave the gray filly back-to-back wins by a combined 10 ¾ lengths and earned her a 90 Beyer Speed Figure in just her third career start.
Ridden by Robert Landry, Careless Jewel went straight to the lead from the start and opened up late to win going away at the wire, stopping the clock in 1:44.11 for 1 1/16 miles over the local Polytrack. In her previous start, she broke her maiden in a six-furlong race by a decisive 3 ½ lengths.
Trained by Josie Carroll, Careless Jewel moved her career earnings to $72,846 for owner Donver Stable, which purchased the filly as a yearling at the 2007 Keeneland September Sale for $40,000 from the consignment of Gainesway. She was bred in Kentucky by Gainesway and Bill Andrade and is out of the Hennessy mare Sweet and Careless.
