Never Right Joey scored a hard-fought three-quarter length victory in the High Rock Springs S. at Saragtoa on Aug. 26, becoming the first 2-year-old stakes winner of the year for his sire Tapit.
With four juvenile winners in the past week, the 9-year-old Gainesway stallion has been quickly climbing up the 2-year-old sire list. His 10 winners on the year is good for third spot, while Never Bend Joey's $42,000 take for today's win vaults his sire into sixth place on the earnings list.
The six-furlong High Rock Springs was the second lifetime start for Never Right Joey following a 4 3/4-length gate-to-wire maiden romp on July 24 at Saratoga. He used a similar style in the High Rock Springs, taking control early through a half-mile in :46.64. Freuds Ana Streak took a run at him in midstretch, but Never Right Joey pulled away in the final strides, stopping the clock in 1:11.53 over the fast track.
Never Right Joey has now earned $66,000 in his two wins. He is owned by Repole Stable, who purchased him this past March at the Fasig-Tipton Calder Select 2-year-old sale. He was bred by JMJ Racing Stable.
