Tapit tops $8 million progeny earnings mark

Sunday, October 16, 2011 |
Another solid weekend for the offspring of Tapit put the Gainesway stallion over the $8 million mark through mid-October. The 10-year-old sire, who ranks second on the General Sire List by worldwide earnings, registered his 13th stakes winner of 2011 on Oct. 15th, when 3-year-old Golden Set won the $85,000 West Virginia Lottery Breeders' Classic S. at Charles Town Races by a handy 2 1/4-lengths (VIDEO).

Golden Set, who was already stakes placed this year, won the Breeders' Classic with a four-wide trip, coming from fourth place on the turn to draw off in the stretch and complete the seven furlongs in 1:26.67.

The winner was bred in West Virginia by William Ward, Jr. and is owned by David Raim. Raim bought the gray colt at the 2009 Keeneland September yearling sale. Golden Set is one of five winners out of Swing Set, who is a half sister to Cobra King, winner of the Holy Bull S., Balboa S., and Hollywood Prevue, all Grade 3 events.

Golden Set is now 5-1-1 in nine starts, with earnings of $132,334.
