Tapit sired the top two yearlings and three of the top four in-foal mares on Day One of the Keeneland January Sale...

The five horses, whose prices ranged from $400,000 to $195,000, were Tapit’s only yearlings or in-foal mares in the opening session, and each far out-performed the overall sale statistics.

Highest price of the day for any in-foal mare was attained by Song and Danz. In foal to Tapit on a May 23 cover, she was consigned by Allied Bloodstock on behalf of Don Ameche III, and sold to Anderson Farm for $400,000. Second high-priced broodmare on Jan. 10 was Cowgirls Don’t Cry, who sold for $340,000 to Shadai Farm, from Taylor Made’s consignment. Fourth highest price for a broodmare was Eden’s Storm, who sold for $300,000 to Twin Hopes Farm. Carrying her first foal, she was consigned by Denali Stud, agent for Bridlewood Farm.

Tapit further flexed his commercial appeal with two newly-turned yearling colts. Hip 286, a May foal out of a Deputy Minister mare, sold for $220,000 to Acorn Equine, agent, from the consignment of Hartwell Farm, agent for Iron County Farm. Just 30 hips later, Whisper Hill paid $195,000 for a dark bay whose dam is a half-sister to three G1 winners and the dam of multi-millionaire champion David Junior. Denali Stud consigned that colt for Bridlewood.

Tapit’s five representatives averaged $291,000, compared with Keeneland's opening day average of $57,153. The two-time Champion Sire will stand the 2011 season for $80,000 live foal, due when foal stands and nurses.
