Taptowne proves best in Cryptoclearance S.

Saturday, April 07, 2012 |
Taptowne's victory in the $62,000 Cryptoclearance S. April 7 at Hawthorne (VIDEO) marked the first career stakes victory for the 4-year-old son of Tapit, who is the top 5 on the 2012 General Sire List. His six stakes winners this year rank second among all stallions.

Taptowne, owned by his breeder, Clover Towne Farm, broke fifth and was in mid-pack in the second flight until the three quarter pole. He moved steadily on the turn to be second at the top of the stretch. He took the lead in the stretch from Shadowbdancing to win the 1 1/16 mile contest by 1 1/4-lengths under Orlando Mojica

"I rode the best horse today. We got into a little trouble on the first turn and but the rail opened up and we were able to get through." said Mojica.

"He's been a nice horse since we got him. He wants so badly to win,” said winning trainer Michael Reavis.

The winner's purse of $37,350 boosted Taptowne's lifetime take to $154,600. Bred in Kentucky, Taptowne is a half-brother to Tacky Cat, winner of Turfway Park's Cincinnati Trophy S.
