Third 'Rising Star' of 2014 for Tapit

Tapit's incredible early run in 2014 kept rolling on Saturday when Tonalist drew off to a four-length maiden special weight victory at Gulfstream Park. The leggy 3-year-old colt covered the nine furlongs in 1:50.21 after a four-wide trip around the second turn.

Drawing off with authority in the final eighth-mile, Tonalist earned a very good Beyer Speed Figure of 90 as well as being tagged a TDN “Rising Star”, the third such designation for a Tapit colt or filly in the past eight days.

Tonalist is owned by Robert S. Evans and was bred in Kentucky by Woodslane Farm. The colt, who was fourth in his debut in November behind another pair of Tapit colts, comes from the same family as Grade 1 Flower Bowl winner Christiecat.

With the likes of sophomore runners Hartford and Constitution, Tapit is poised to make a big impact on the 2014 Triple Crown.
