A new first-crop stakes winner, a new 2-year-old stakes winner, and a new 2-year-old stakes performer were the highlights on Oct. 16 for Kentucky's leading juvenile sire, Tapit.

First to strike was Noisy Feet, who made some serious noise at Monmouth when she drove to victory in the $70,000 College of New Jersey Stakes at odds of nearly 15-1.  From Tapit's first crop, the bay filly showed true grit, tracking the pace closely from the inside, driving through along the rail, then battling every step of the way down the long Monmouth stretch with five-time stakes winner Lady Alexander. Noisy Feet's victory margin was half a length.

Noisy Feet was bred in Kentucky by Gainesway Thoroughbreds Ltd. and Winchell Thoroughbreds, and she was sold by Gainesway at the 2007 Keeneland January Sale. Noisy Feet's full-brother was a $450,000 session topper at last month's Keeneland September yearling sale.

A few hours later at Charles Town, 2-year-old Golden Set became Tapit's fourth juvenile stakes winner this year, with his strong victory in the $65,000 West Virginia Farm Family Insurance Vincent Moscarelli Memorial Breeders' Cup Classic. The heavy favorite with the crowd, Golden Set made his move on the second turn, then battled down the lane before drawing clear for a 1 1/4 length victory.  Bred by William R. Ward, Golden Set is out of the Swing Till Dawn mare Swing Set, and was sold at the Keeneland September sale to owner David M. Raim in 2009. The gray/roan colt has compiled a record of 4-2-1-0 and $55,330.

Also over the weekend, Tapit had another stakes-placed 2-year-old when Players Court ran third in the $75,000 Small Wonder Stakes at Delaware, and two more of his juveniles won impressively in Maiden Special Weight company at Oak Tree, giving him 20 2-year-old winners on the year.

Zazu, a 2-year-old filly, earned an 87 Beyer with a flashy maiden win Friday evening at Oak Tree, drawing clear for a decisive 2 3/4-victory. Out of the Mr. Greeley mare Rhumb Line, Zazu was a $285,000 Gainesway Sales graduate from last year's Keeneland September Sale, purchased by David Ingordo for owners Mr. & Mrs. J.S. Moss. Gainesway Sales will also sell Zazu's full-brother at the upcoming Keeneland November Sale. The weanling colt sells as Hip 892 early Thursday morning, Nov. 11. Gainesway sold a three-part brother by Corinthian to Zazu during last month's Keeneland September Sale for $130,000, to NY-Based trainer George Weaver.

On Sunday another 2-year-old made an impressive debut at Oak Tree, as Hollywood Fierce rallied to defeat a field of 10. The son of Tapit was also a Gainesway Sales grad at Keeneland September, selling for $70,000 to current owner Westmore Thoroughbreds.

Tapit has now sired 10 stakes winners, 24 stakes horses, and eight 2-year-old stakes horses this year, and he is the leading juvenile sire at stud in Kentucky. The two-time Champion Sire has overall 2010 progeny earnings in excess of $5.8 million, and juvenile earnings in excess of $1 million.
