Champion sire Tapit gained his 17th stakes win of the year when his graded stakes-winning daughter War Echo scored a decisive victory in the $96,000 DRF Distaff S. at Fair Grounds.
War Echo, who is trained by Steve Asmussen, won the Silverbulletday S. (G3) earlier this year at Fair Grounds, and Saturday’s win now gives the powerful chestnut filly her second stakes triumph this season. A 3-year-old Winchell Thoroughbreds homebred, War Echo hails from the Wild Again mare Wild Vision, making her a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Pyro.
The win was War Echo’s fourth from eight starts, moving her earnings to $258,537.
