About Gainesway Sales

An Emphasis On Quality

Selling yearlings, broodmares and weanlings requires good business sense, knowledgeable horsemen, marketing savvy, excellent presentation and experience in the sales ring. When we represent our clients at public auction, we bring with us years of experience and knowledge, as well as a proven track record and a large clientele of International Buyers.

Gainesway excels in the sales ring by offering top product.

Gainesway Sales History

Gainesway excels in the sales ring by offering top product, focusing on select limited numbers and very high quality. We annually consign at Fasig-Tipton July and Saratoga, as well as Keeneland September, November and January.

In 2013, Gainesway sold $26.5-million worth of yearlings. We have the highest average ($178,300) among all consignors with 60 or more yearlings sold, and the highest median ($115,000) among all those with 10 or more sold. We sold the Session Topper ($1.5 million) Day One at Keeneland, the second high-priced colt Day Three ($1.55 million), and the Session Topper Day Five. We were also the leading consignor at Fasig-Tipton July, with nearly double the gross sales of any other consignor.

For four consecutive years, 2010-2013, Gainesway has ranked among the top three yearling consignors by gross sales. In 2012, Gainesway sold $18.56 million worth of yearlings, while posting a significantly higher average ($128,035) than the first and second-ranked consignors. In 2011, Gainesway posted the highest yearling average by far ($119,682) of any consignor with 100 or more sold. And in 2010, we were one of just three consignors to sell more than $18-million worth of yearlings.

A hallmark of Gainesway's sales program is our ability to get our horses sold. Every year since 2006 Gainesway has been a world leader by percentage of horses sold. In 2013, we sold 86.7% of all yearlings offered (149 of 170). In 2012, we sold 85.3% of our yearlings, in 2011 90%, and in 2010 85.5%.  These numbers are all the more remarkable when one considers that just 70% of all horses offered at public auction sell in the ring.

Our sales team is focused on selling at the Top of the Market. We believe that the placement within a consignment is one of the most crucial decisions made, and we strive to help clients place their Thoroughbreds where they will stand out in the crowd. At the sale we maintain the highest level of horsemanship and presentation as well as a high level of communication with our clients.

If you are looking to sell or purchase a weanling, yearling or broodmare the Gainesway Sales Division is eager to put its record of success to work for you.

Please contact Michael Hernon, Neil Howard or Brian Graves for information about consigning with Gainesway.

Selling Graded Stakes Winners

If you are looking to sell yearlings, weanlings, or mares, you want a consignor with a proven track record of selling stakes winners. For decades, Gainesway has been raising and prepping horses of the highest caliber. Over the past 3 1/2 years, Gainesway sales have produced 28 individual Graded stakes winners, including both Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks contenders, and five Grade 1 Breeders' Cup contenders.

In 2013, only two consignors have produced more Group/Graded stakes winners than Gainesway Sales. Over the past 22 months, Gainesway consignments have yielded 13 Graded stakes winners, five Grade 1 winners, led by: international G1 winner Zaidan ($1,534,068), multi-millionaire Eclipse Champion My Miss Aurelia (G1), Breeders' Cup Sprint contender Jimmy Creed (G1), Acorn victress Midnight Lucky (G1, NTR), and most recently, Test S. (G1) winner Sweet Lulu.

Other recent racing stars sold by Gainesway include: Champion Informed Decision (G1), Eclipse Award Finalists Careless Jewel (G1) and Noble's Promise (G1), Jerry and Anne Moss's Zazu (G1), Donegal Racing's Paddy O'Prado (G2), Starlight Racing's Thunder Moccasin (G2), Gary and Mary West's Flashback (G2), Sam-Son's Windward Islands (G2), Jerry Durant's Macho Macho (G2), Zayat Stables' Fast Bullet (G2), Besilu Stables' Tapicat (G3), and more. Twenty-first century champions sold by Gainesway include Champion and Breeders' Cup winner Orientate (G1) and Champion and Kentucky Oaks winner Bird Town (G1), and monumental racehorses & sires such as triple G1 winner and classic winner Birdstone and Hopeful S. winner Sky Mesa (G1), among others. We never lose sight of the idea that every future foal, weanling or yearling is a potential stakes winner. Our reputation has been built on this foundation of success.
