Selling yearlings, broodmares and weanlings requires good business sense, knowledgeable horsemen, marketing savvy, excellent presentation and experience in the sales ring. When we represent our clients at public auction, we bring with us years of experience and knowledge, as well as a proven track record and a large clientele of International Buyers.

Emphasis on Quality

Gainesway excels in the sales ring by offering top product, focusing on select limited numbers and very high quality. We annually consign at Fasig-Tipton July and Saratoga, as well as Keeneland September, November and January. In 2006, Gainesway led the major consignors with 88.9% of horses offered sold. We built on this success in 2007 by maintaining a leadership position with 86.06% of horses sold. In 2008, amid a worldwide financial crisis, Gainesway was again among the top 2 consignors with 83.9% of horses offered sold. And in 2009 we continued the trend, selling 84.6% of all yearlings, weanlings, and broodmares offered. These numbers are all the more remarkable when one considers that only 70% of all horses offered at public auction sell in the ring.

In 2009, Gainesway once again ranked among the elite consignors by gross at each of the major yearling sales: Fasig-Tipton July (1st), Saratoga Select (4th) and Keeneland September (6th). And we sold the fourth highest priced yearling of the year (second highest colt at the Saratoga Select Sale), a $1,300,000 son of Bernardini-Bird Town, purchased by John Ferguson on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed.

In 2008, we sold the world's highest-priced yearling, a $3,100,000 A.P. Indy-Chimichurri filly, purchased by John Ferguson. Also at 2008 Keeneland September, we sold two session toppers, a $1,000,000 Mr. Greeley-Tempest Dancer colt purchased by Legends Racing, and an $875,000 Mr. Greeley-Chinoe Road colt purchased by Zayat Stables. Other 2008 successes include: $1,350,000 Keeneland January broodmare Moon Catcher, sold to Narvick International; $1,250,000 Keeneland November broodmare Lady Joanne, sold to Frank Stronach; and $1,200,000 Keeneland November broodmare You're Beautiful sold to Denali Stud, agent. Both Lady Joanne and You're Beautiful were in foal to Mr. Greeley.

Our sales team is focused on selling at the Top of the Market. We believe that the placement within a consignment is one of the most crucial decisions made, and we strive to help clients place their Thoroughbreds where they will stand out in the crowd. At the sale we maintain the highest level of horsemanship and presentation as well as a high level of communication with our clients.

If you are looking to sell or purchase a weanling, yearling or broodmare the Gainesway Sales Division is eager to put its record of success to work for you.
